Mixed Pizza Recipe

Ingredients:

For the Pizza Dough (makes 2 medium pizzas):

  • 2 ¼ teaspoons active dry yeast, 1 packet
  • 1 ½ cups warm water, 110°F or 45°C
  • 3 ½ to 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 teaspoons sugar
  • 2 teaspoons salt

Pizza Sauce:

  • 1 cup tomato sauce or crushed tomatoes
  • 1-2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1 teaspoon sugar, if using, to balance acidity
  • Salt and pepper, as needed

Toppings (as desired):

  • 1 ½ cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • ½ cup sliced pepperoni
  • ½ cup cooked sausage Italian sausage, crumbled
  • ½ cup sliced mushrooms
  • ½ cup sliced bell peppers, red, green, or yellow
  • ¼ cup sliced black olives
  • ¼ cup sliced red onions
  • 1-2 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese
  • Fresh basil leaves for garnish, if desired
  • Olive oil, for brushing the crust

Instructions:

1. To make the Dough:

  • In a small bowl combine yeast and sugar with warm water. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes, or until frothy.
  • In a large mixing bowl combine 3 ½ cups of flour and salt. Make a well in the center and add the yeast mixture and olive oil.
  • Mix until a dough forms. If it's too sticky, gradually add more flour.
  • Turn dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  • Place in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let rise in a warm place about 1-1 ½ hours or until doubled.

2. Prepare pizza sauce:

  • In a small saucepan, warm a little olive oil over medium heat.
  • Add minced garlic and cook for 1 minute until fragrant.
  • Stir in the tomato sauce, oregano, basil, sugar, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 10-15 minutes for the flavors to meld.
  • Allow the sauce to cool slightly. æ–¹

3. Preheat Oven:

  • Preheat your oven to 475°F. If you have a pizza stone, place it inside while the oven preheats.

4. Assemble the Pizza:

  • Punch down the risen dough and divide into two equal portions. Roll out one portion on a lightly floured surface to form a circle, 12 inches in diameter.
  • Transfer the dough to parchment paper, if using a pizza stone. If using a baking sheet, lightly oil it and place the dough directly on it.
  • Spread a thin layer of pizza sauce over the dough, leaving only a small border for the crust. Sprinkle half the shredded mozzarella cheese over the sauce. Add mixed toppings: pepperoni, sausage, mushrooms, bell peppers, olives, onions. Be careful not to overfill the pizza. Sprinkle grated Parmesan cheese over the toppings.

5. Baking the Pizza:

  • If using a pizza stone, slide the pizza with parchment paper onto the stone. Otherwise, if you are using a baking sheet, simply place it in the oven.
  • Bake for 10-12 minutes or until the crust comes out golden and the cheese is bubbly and lightly browned.
  • If you want a crisper crust, bake for another 1-2 minutes.

6. Serve:

  • Take the pizza out of the oven and let it cool for a few minutes.
  • If desired, garnish with fresh basil leaves and drizzle a little olive oil over the crust.
  • Cut into wedges and serve hot.

Your mixed pizza is homemade and ready to enjoy!
